GLASGOW & CENTRAL SCOTLAND'S EXPERT ROUGHCAST / HARLING INSTALLATION

Roughcasting Services in Glasgow & Scotland’s Central Belt

We provide professional roughcasting services across Glasgow, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, and the wider Central Belt of Scotland, specialising in full property roughcasting for homeowners who want a strong, weather-resistant exterior with a traditional Scottish finish.

Roughcasting has been used on homes across Scotland for generations because it works. It’s tough, impact-resistant, and well suited to properties exposed to driving rain, wind, and temperature changes. When installed properly, it provides long-term protection and a clean, consistent appearance that stands up to the climate.

Wet Dash & Dry Dash Roughcasting

We install both wet dash and dry dash roughcasting, depending on the finish you’re looking for.

Wet Dash Roughcasting

Wet dash roughcasting is where the stone chips are mixed directly into a lime and cement-based render, then applied to the wall together in one process. The stones are already in the mix, so they’re bonded into the wall as it’s applied.

Dry dash roughcasting is installed using a two-coat render system:

  1. A base coat of render is applied to the wall and left to cure (typically around 12 hours, depending on conditions).

  2. A second render coat (top coat) is then applied.

  3. While the top coat is still wet, the roughcast stones are thrown onto the surface, where they bond into the render as it cures.

This method creates a strong, textured finish with excellent weather resistance and long-term durability. It also allows better control over coverage and appearance compared to single-coat systems.

A Fully Finished Exterior

To ensure your home looks complete once the roughcasting is finished, we also include:

  • Painting of window sills and surrounding brickwork using high-quality masonry paint

  • Treatment and painting of cast-iron downpipes with protective metal paint

These finishing touches help tie everything together, leaving your property looking clean, tidy, and well cared for, rather than half-finished.

Over 20 Colour Options for Your Roughcasting

Our roughcasting service includes a coloured top coat applied to the walls before the roughcast chips are added. This means the colour is built into the roughcasting system itself, rather than relying on painting afterwards.

This approach helps to:

  • Create a more even and consistent finish

  • Improve colour coverage and depth

  • Make general wear and ageing less noticeable over time

We offer over 20 colour options, allowing you to refresh or modernise your home while keeping the traditional roughcast appearance that suits Scottish homes.

25-Year Guarantee & Long-Term Durability

Our roughcasting systems are designed to last, not just look good on day one. When installed as a full two-coat system with proper preparation and curing time, roughcasting is one of the most durable external finishes available for Scottish homes.

That’s why our roughcasting work can be backed by a 25-year guarantee, giving you confidence that your walls are protected against weathering, cracking, and surface failure for decades to come.

We don’t rush jobs, skip coats, or roughcast over unstable surfaces. The longevity of roughcasting depends entirely on how it’s installed — and we do it properly from start to finish.

Who Roughcasting Is Right For

Most homeowners don’t choose roughcasting because of technical features and benefits — they choose it because it looks right for their home.

Across Glasgow and Scotland’s Central Belt, roughcasting is already the most common exterior finish in most areas. In many cases, homeowners simply want to keep the same style their property already has, or match the surrounding homes so everything looks consistent.

Roughcasting is usually the right choice if:

  • Your home already has roughcast and you want a fresh, like-for-like finish

  • You have a breeze block or brick finish you want roughcasted

  • You live in an area where most neighbouring properties are roughcast and you want your home to blend in naturally

  • Your property is an older build or an ex-council home where roughcasting suits the original design

  • You’re improving the exterior but don’t want a modern or smooth render finish

  • You want a traditional Scottish look that feels appropriate for the area

For many homeowners, roughcasting its about upgrading to something new and restoring what should be there, improving the appearance, and keeping the character of your home intact.

When installed properly, roughcasting refreshes tired walls while maintaining the familiar look seen throughout Glasgow, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, and the wider Central Belt of Scotland.

Domestic Roughcasting in Glasgow & Surrounding Areas

We provide domestic roughcasting services across Glasgow and the surrounding areas, working exclusively on residential properties throughout Scotland’s Central Belt.

Our work focuses on full house roughcasting for homeowners looking to refresh or restore the external appearance of their property. We regularly work on traditional housing estates, ex-council homes, and older residential properties where roughcasting is the most suitable and established finish.

By specialising in domestic roughcasting only, we’re able to focus on the details that matter most to homeowners — consistency of finish, long-term durability, and a result that suits the style of the property and the surrounding homes.
